Corporate Governance

The Himalayas including the Karakoram and the Hindu Kush have been central to my life and I have a great respect and affection for the people who live amongst them or at there margins. I am aware of the deprivations that many face in these areas especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I am particularly interested in the mountain health project that the Foundation is beginning to develop in Chitral; whose mountains and inhabitants I hold in the highest regard.

Sir Chris Bonington
Patron of The Abaseen Foundation UK

The Abaseen Foundation Pakistan was established in 2000. Its intention was to support a non-functioning and ill-equipped government hospital in North West Pakistan, serving a population of 200,000.

In 2002, the Abaseen Foundation UK, its partner organisation, was founded to provide not only financial aid, but managerial and skills support to the project.

Since taking control of the struggling Nahaqi hospital, the Foundation has seen it transform into a fully-functioning and modern healthcare facility, receiving praise from the World Health Organization and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government.

Meanwhile, the charity has also gone from strength-to-strength and extended its support for local communities through humanitarian relief and education projects. Plans to take over several local government schools are currently in development.

With the help of generous donations and frequent fundraising events, as well as the support and expertise of the charity’s Board of Trustees and key volunteers, the Foundation is able to support the health and education of thousands in rural communities in Pakistan.

The Abaseen Foundation UK pursues its charitable objectives by way of partnership with the Abaseen Foundation Pakistan and does so under a protocol for joint working dated 28th October 2002.

The Abaseen Foundation UK is a charitable trust established under a declaration of trust on the 4th December 2002 and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 7th February 2003 (Registration Number 1095882). The status of our compliance with the Charity Commission can be seen by clicking here.

The Foundation's objects are for such exclusively charitable purposes for the benefits of the inhabitants of Pakistan (hereinafter called the "area of benefit") in particular but not exclusively by the provision of financial assistance, advice and goods and equipment to the Abaseen Foundation in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The Foundation is managed by a Board of Trustees who meet quarterly. The Foundation undertakes four principal strands of activity in pursuit of its charitable objectives: health, education, research and humanitarian relief. Each strand is led by an individual trustee under the overall direction and oversight of the Board. The Foundation does not employ anybody and keeps its administrative expenses to a minimum.

As a registered charity its annual accounts are independently examined and it files an annual report and its independently examined accounts with the Charity Commission each year.
