This is a very poorly performing hospital approximately 1 hours drive north of Mingora in Lower Swat Valley in the flood affected area. The people who need this hospital have as in Project One been hit by two disasters, first the Taliban and second the floods. The Abaseen Foundation has a track record of successfully transforming a non functioning hospital at Nahaqi Hospital in Charsadda and is well placed to repeat the model that they have developed in this hospital. These people need good health care and a modest amount of capital investment could transform the services in Kabal hospital and the people in this area are much in need of health services.
CH Kabal was built in 1962, where population dependent on it for health care was less. With the growing population and more requirement of health care, no proportionate development took place in the hospital. The gap was filled by private clinics and practices, where unfortunately priority was making more money than health care. There are numbers of private maternity homes under the supervision of LHVs, who have no remedy for a complicated delivery and no back up in terms of ambulance. However with illiteracy rate very high in the area, people took them for ultimate. AF took up this challenge with the help of UNICEF to not only inform these people door to door but also provide standard health care. The number of deliveries in statistics speaks for AF performance. Not only the mothers are taken good care of but the child is discharged after a thorough check by child specialist and brief by AF hygiene promoter on breast feeding to the mother. In 3 months majority of the population has shown confidence in the MCHC Project. AF hopes to make it 100% hopefully by next quarterly report as the message by then should reach 100% population.
