Sponsor Yasin Jogee to climb Mount Toubkal, Morocco

Yasin Jogee is joining Abaseen Foundation’s 2024 Trek to Mount Toubkal in Morocco.

I first heard about Abaseen Foundation 2 years ago from a gentleman I met on a Pendle Hill Walk. He spoke at length about his experience on the annual trip and the villages he visited where it is making a difference. He is now a trustee of the charity, as well as being a respected journalist and health worker.

I am excited about the adventure this trek promises us. At 4167 metres it is the highest summit in North Africa and the equivalent of climbing Mount Snowdon twice in the space of three days. I shall be documenting this epic trip and my preparation on my Blog.

Please make a donation on this page towards the work undertaken by Abaseen Foundation supporting impoverished communities in the remote villages of North West Pakistan. Many households subsist on less than $1US per day. Your contributions will have impact and help break the cycle of poverty. I was particularly moved hearing about children as young as six working in brick kilns which proliferate in the area, posing a serious threat to their long-term wellbeing. AF has instituted schools in these communities and dared to change the landscape. The foundation has received awards in recognition of their work over the past 20 years, including the 2018 Queen's Award for Voluntary Services.

"I don't know if I particularly want to be remembered for anything. I have enjoyed great satisfaction from my climb of Everest and my trips to the poles. But there's not doubt, either, that my most worthwhile things have been the building of schools and medical clinics." Sir Edmund Hilary

The focus of this campaign is to raise funds for a new school and a community hospital. For Zakat donations please state ZAKAT clearly in the comments box - the money will be set aside for Zakat eligible projects.

Support this ambitious charity trek to raise funds for some of the poorest people in the world.

Here’s how your very generous contribution will help:

Contribute towards the building of schools

Help ensure clean water for drinking

Sponsor children left orphaned

Contribute towards the building of homes for the homeless

Abaseen Foundation is a lifeline to people living in North West Pakistan. By empowering them with education and good health we are supporting the next generation to become self-sufficient. Please don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box as this will help increase your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you.

Abaseen’s Impact Over the Last 20 Years

Since we were formed over 20 years ago, we’ve worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people in North West Pakistan. Here’s a small sample of our achivements so far:

EDUCATION

  1. Educating girls in an area where literacy level for girls was less than 3%.

  2. We recently opened a degree college for girls to enable girls to progress to a university education.

  3. It isn’t all about knowledge! We have a very successful vocational training college for girls and boys with a wide range of skills to develop and enterprising aspect that provides apprentices with the tools they need to continue and develop their own business.

HEALTH

  1. We provide basic health care to people in the area who would otherwise have no access to health care at all.

  2. We have introduced a much-needed well-being for women service which addresses period poverty.

  3. We offer an x-ray service within the community without which they would need to take time off work and pay the expenses to go to Peshawar. This basic and essential imaging technology would otherwise be inaccessible due to cost.

HUMANITARIAN RELIEF

  1. 2005 earthquake

  2. Floods in Swat Vallery in 2010

  3. More recent floods in Swat, where we raised £135,000 to respond to the catastrophe

And finally - we stand ready to respond to any future disasters. Given the escalating climate crisis, there will almost certainly be more, and we have recently started looking at how we address climate sensitive projects.

Our partnership with our creative agency means we can launch a humanitarian appeal within 90 minutes.

RESEARCH

We attract funds to complete action based research to underpin our education, health and other projects.
